The Rhode Island SPCA cares for over 2,000 dogs, cats, puppies, kittens and small animals each year. We would not be able to give these animals the quality care they deserve without the help of our dedicated volunteers. If you would like to contribute your time, compassion, and special skills to the RISPCA, please contact Jim McGee at jmcgee@rispca.com.

Volunteer Policies

All volunteers are required to fill out and submit volunteer application before they begin volunteering at the shelter. After you have done this, the volunteer department will contact you to set up a time for you to attend a volunteer orientation. Attendance at a volunteer orientation is necessary before you begin helping out at the shelter.

Volunteer Foster Program

New foster parents are needed to take care of orphaned kittens until they are ready to be returned to the RISPCA and adopted.

Positions available:
Bottle feed kittens/puppies: less than 5 weeks old.  Must be fed every 2-3 hours.  Individual would have to be able to bring kittens/puppies to work or be home most of the time.
Socialize Kittens/Puppies: 5-8 weeks old.  Kittens/puppies need to be socialized to prepare them for adoption.

If interested, please return a Volunteer Foster Application and your pet's up-to-date vaccination records to Lisa Levasseur (lisal@rispca.com).
