What is Humane Education?
Humane Education, in it's simplest form, is teaching people of all ages to understand and care for the animals in our lives. In a broader sense, it exists to foster compassion, respect, and empathy for all living things and to promote conservation of the environments we live in. Humane Education picks up where other academic disciplines leave off, addressing not only the scientific understanding of life around us, but also promoting contemplation of our moral obligations to the world we live in.
Our Mission
It is the mission of the Rhode Island SPCA Humane Education department to raise awareness of animal issues within Rhode Island; to cultivate informed, engaged individuals; to uphold thpillars of character- trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship; to promote the human-animal bond; to foster compassion, respect and empathy for all living things; and to create and maintain ties between the Rhode Island SPCA and the communities within Rhode Island. We strive to do this through a variety of flexible and affordable educational, service-based interactive and community outreach programs, and through maintaining a modern and accessible educational facility.
