Volunteering with the RISPCA
RISPCA Youth Group
Foster Care Training - April 18th
At any given time, the RISPCA is home to
over 100 dogs, cats, kittens, puppies, hamsters,
rabbits,
birds and other companion animals. As you
can well imagine, it takes a lot of time
and effort to care for all of these
animals. Without the help of our dedicated
volunteers, we don’t know how we would make
it through the day!
![]() Congratulations to all of our volunteers who have helped the RISPCA have the "BEST VOLUNTEER GROUP" in the 2007, and now the 2008 Reader's Choice Awards from Animal Print Magazine |

Volunteers Needed The RISPCA is seeking enthusiastic individuals to help fill the following volunteer positions:
Animal care assistants In this position, you will assist the staff in cleaning, feeding, and exercising the animals prior to the shelter opening in the morning. It’s a great way to get hands on experience working with animals, as well as being directly involved with their care. Dog walkers/trainers This position involves walking, training, and giving some cuddle time to the shelter dogs. It also may require helping staff to show the dogs to potential adopters. All dog walkers are required to attend a dog handling and safety class Join our Dog Walker Program! Walk your way into better shape, into the hearts of our shelter dogs, and up to the next "Dog Walker Level!" The incentive levels range from a certificate of appreciation for 25 hours of dog walking, to a dining certificate for 300 hours of walking, with many levels in between. |

![]() Foster Parents The need for foster parents varies according to the time of year. During kitten season (early spring through early fall), we need foster parents willing to open their homes to pregnant and nursing mother cats and orphaned kittens who may need to be bottle fed until they’re ready for adoption. This position requires a truly committed individual, as sometimes animals may need to be in foster care for up to eight weeks or longer. See an overview of what's involved and how to judge the age of a kitten HERE. |

| Clerical This is a great position for someone who wants to help, but has a limited amount of time to spare. Several times a month we need help with things such as stuffing envelopes, preparing newsletters for mailing, etc.
Special events/fundraisers There’s always something going on at the RISPCA! We are seeking help with planning and setting up special events and fundraisers, such as our silent auction, dog walk, horse ride, pasta dinner, and manning booths at local festivals to promote the RISPCA. |

| Special Skills Just because we haven’t mentioned your special skill or talent does not mean we aren’t interested in hearing about it! In the past we’ve had help from graphic designers, carpenters, computer technicians, and more. If you have an idea that you feel could be of benefit to the animals, we would love to hear from you! | Volunteer Awards Each year we present some of our most dedicated volunteers with the Special People Caring for Animals (SPCA) Award. . These volunteers have spent countless hours over the last year working for the animals in a wide variety of tasks. Without the help of dedicated individuals like these volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to carry on our work as well as we do. Thank you all! ![]() Volunteers recognized in 2008
