Meet one of our speediest residents - Scooter!
Scooter is a very special dog with a very sad story. He was one of 13 dogs confiscated from a home that was deemed uninhabitable for humans or animals. The dogs were split between the RISPCA and a municipal shelter. Two of the other dogs were also paraplegic. Despite all three dogs having wheel chairs, none of them were being utilized and all three were forced to drag themselvesaround through the filth. All of the dogs were unkempt,
and required bathing and grooming to remove matted feces. A more disturbing part of the story is that these dogs were part of a breed rescue organization. Many breed rescues do an excellent job of monitoring animals out on foster care, but this organization dropped the ball and allowed these dogs to slip through the cracks. If it weren't for the concern of a neighbor, these dogs would still be residing in squalor.
Scooter is an amazing dog, and is incredibly sweet and loving!
He is low-key and loves people. He doesn't let his mobility problems get him down in the least, and loves to go for walks in his cart - especially if it involves meeting new people!
Scooter may even make a great therapy dog!
Living with a special needs pet like
Scooter comes with different challenges than other pets, and adequate research should always be done before bringing the pet home.
However, special needs pets also come with rewards aboveand beyond others, and are worth the extra effort! If you would like more information about pets with mobility issues, definitely check out www.handicappedpets.com.
